Tribute & Message From The Family

Missed by his loving family, Rick slipped away on Monday, January 9, 2012. Rick was 46 years old, born Jan. 14, 1965 in Taunton, MA to Edward and Joyce Kaloust. Rick spent his entire professional career in financial services and established a successful American United Life Agency in Tampa, FL, where he served as General Agent. Under his leadership, his agency achieved seven Top 10 qualifications as well as qualified for AUL's Business Conference five times, making his agency one of the top in the country. Rick and his soul mate Tammy Bratcher enjoyed many happy years together in Tampa.

Rick was loved by many and will always be remembered by his adoring mother and father, Joyce and Edward Kaloust, and by his four siblings: Donna Hedgepath of Naples, FL; Kim Kaloust of Newton, MA; John and Derek Kaloust of Tampa, FL. He also leaves behind five nieces and nephews.
Rick lived life to the fullest and was always there for those who needed him most. The only thing that was larger than his smile was his heart, which will live on through his family and friends. He had a way of making each one of us feel special, and his charisma lit up our lives. Rick was truly our "Golden Boy." We will miss him dearly.
We stand before you with broken hearts because our beloved brother, beautiful son, and precious friend has passed. So today we will weep and mourn, but tomorrow we will dance in your memory. This comes from a passage in the Bible, Ecclesiastes 3:l, "A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance."
In lieu of flowers, please do a random act of kindness and pay it forward in Rick's honor.

A service for family and friends of Richard Edward Kaloust will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 1PM at Brewer & Sons Funeral Home, South Tampa Chapel, 3328 S. Dale Mabry Hwy. Tampa, Florida, with a Celebration of Life reception immediately following from 2-4 p.m. at Malio's, located at 400 Ashley Drive North, Tampa. For his family and friends in Massachusetts, there will be a celebration service and releasing of ashes this summer in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Updates will be provided at Brewer & Sons Funeral Home, 813-835-4991.

Dear Kaloust Family,
I was so very sad to hear
about the passing of Rick! :(
I'm not sure if you remember
me but I went to Brookwood
with him for three years , he
will always be special in my
heart because he gave me my
first kiss:) .He went off to Pingree
and I off to G.D.A.,my senior year,
he took me to my senior prom. He
was handsome and such a gentleman
and from what I've read nothing
changed , he just got better!! I learned
of his passing from my parents who
read it in Naples News. Please let
me know when the memorial will be in
Gloucester this summer , I would
love to see you all! There is nothing
I can say to take away your pain
but just know after all these years
I have never forgotten Rick .Love,

I walked along the beach today in Tel Aviv thinking about you Rick and all the wonderful memories I shared with you. Remember all the layovers you came to visit me and how embarrassed you would get when ALL of the crew wanted to meet you? And the time the emplyoee at the hotel in Boston scared the crap out of me and he followed us to dinner? You got in his face and told him to stay away from me. I'm having a hard time with myself. You gave me your phone number a while back and wanted to catch up. I never called. This New Years I was suppose to come over to visit my Mom in Clearwater and I was going to see you. I became sick and never made it. I have connected with your beautiful family and will be by their side just as you have done for all of us. This summer I plan to come to Gloucester with my husband whom I know you would Love. I never thought I would be back there without you. What I would do to hear your voice or see you again. I have accepted that God had other plans for you and you were needed elsewhere to inspire and love. Thank you for your many years of true friendship. I Love you and miss you dearly. Love, Kim

To my big brother,

I am convinced you were an angel sent to guide me. My whole life you paved the way for me. I am the beneficiary of your many relationships. I often borrowed your friendships as if they were my own. These beautiful people would great me with open arms in your honor. You have never asked for anything in return.

As I walked in your footsteps, I learned from following your shadows. You taught me the importance of leading and protecting those less fortunate. You made me stop to see the beauty in laughter, loyalty, and generosity as if they were the meaning of life itself.

I too now yearn to find the unique and obscure. I seek those who are genuine and try to stay away from those who are not. Even in death, your legacy continues to coach me as I learn stories, some from complete strangers, of your astonishing strength, gentle compassion, and amazing grace. THANK YOU.

I love you big brother. You are my angel.

Hi Ricky,
This is Fia, even though we didn't spend a lot of time together, the time we did was very memorable, the time we met in Road Island, you said to me (come here sweetheart hope you can put up with her) and you hugged me. You were the first person that welcomed me (thank you), after that every time we were together that's how it was! Thanks!
Rick that was the kind of person that you were, loving and very excepting of everyone. We love you so much and I know I will see you in heaven because heaven is for REAL. Love Fia

My sweet Brother,

You always tried to shield me from the pain. You were Always there.
You always called and ended with " I love you".

You can not shield me from this the greatest pain I have ever felt and you are no longer here nor can you call and tell me you love me. Thank you for giving me the gift of these memories.

I see your boat and its heading past the break wall into the Horizon. The sun is setting, the waters are calm and the course is set but your loving family is right behind you in your wake. Guide us through this Rick. As you have always done.
Show us the way

Sail peacefully my little brother. Our fleet will be together again and I will rejoice when I see your beautiful smile.

I love you!

I never met Rick. But I know your family. It's a strong, caring and a united family. I have witnessed the bond and the love. With that image I can feel the loss you have experieced and offer my sincere condolences. I just got back to Tampa after my mother's funeral on Friday. I too received many prayers and well wishes. I'd like to share one with you now that I think, based on what I've read, is appropriate. May you celebrate as much as you mourn. Indeed, Rick was special. Time won't bring him back. But time will make the memories brighter. Best wishes. Wayne

I am trying to understand! All of you who have said so many wonderful things are helping me to cope. Rick was loved by so many and you all are lifting our family over this mountain of sorrow. Rick lived life to the fullest and was a very special SON.He taught me and the rest of our family all the things you are writing about him. Rick and I spent some wonderful time together before GOD called him home and he taught me the true meaning of the love between two people. Rick will live forever in our family and in all of your hearts and he will continue to guide those of us who reflect back on all of the wonderful moments. A friend named Rick left me after a long illness at the early age of 50 and told me to look for him at orion. His favorite song was a song that Nat King Cole sang ( Unforgetable ).Our Rick,my wonderful son, is Unforgetable in every way. Thank all of you for helping us to cope by taking a minute tell everyone how wonderful Rick was. Dad

One day we'll meet again. And we'll laugh about all the trouble we caused, like children get into when they're 15. I've heard as we get older we lose our short term memory, but retain more of our long term memory. I hope so. I have some incredible memories of a good part of my youth spent with my friend Ricky. My heart goes out to the Kaloust Family. I miss you all.

My dearest Joyce,
We are at a loss of words to be able to convey to you how much this news has saddened us. Please know that you and your family are in our heart and prayers and if there is anything at all that we can do for you, just let us know. The loss of one's child has to be so unbearable. It is something that we as parents never expect to have to go through.
Not ever having an opportunity to meet Richard is definitely our loss as he sounds like the type of person who would have made a life long impression. How proud you must be to have raised such a fine man.
God's blessing to all of you.

I've been sitting here reading what everyone had to say about Rick and think of so many times I had with him. I remember being out to dinner with Rick (along with Nick Filing) in a little beach town North of San Diego.
We laughed all night long -- Rick was easy to be around like that.
I'd teach him about music and he'd be so excited to go around telling people how much he loved Neil Young's greatest hits. I don't know if he really did like it -- but he wanted me to think it was the most wonderful sound he had ever heard. He loved to laugh and he loved people. He also lived the business he had built -- and each year it just got better and better.

I was the big benefactor of knowing Rick Kaloust. I learned and laughed and lived my life more abundantly by having him in my life -- over a phone call, a text or email or the two or three times I'd have the chance to see him.

Rick Kaloust was a very special friend. I miss him already.

Rick, I will miss you calling me Syd Vicious and cherish all the fun times we had. I will never forget the first time I met you. It was around the time when Derek and I were just getting out of college and we planned a trip down to Tampa and Derek said we can stay with my big brother Rick. So when we got down there we were waiting for you in front of your condo then here you come down the street driving up in a brand new pimped out Caddy wearing a suit and tie. Looking real sharp! I said to myself man I wanna be just like that guy. You left a great first impression on me and it never stopped from there. Through out the years and all the moments we shared you could not have been any kinder to me. I appreciate that very much and I promise you I will always look out for your little brother because I know how much he meant to you.
Rest In Peace. Love you.

My deepest sympathy to all of Rick's family.
Rick was a man of integrity and a leader in his field. My wife Virginia and I shared several AUL conventions and other events with Rick and appreciated his friendship. He was generous to my son, David, when a client moved to our area.
He asked David to call on the client and take half the commission if a sale was made. This unselfish gesture further endeared him to me.
My prayer for you today is that somehow with the passage of time God can relieve your pain. My thoughts and continued prayers will remain with you.

I am standing on the sea shore,
A ship sails in the morning breeze and starts for the ocean.
She is an object of beauty and I stand watching her
Till at last she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says:
"She is gone." Gone! Where?
Gone from my sight - that is all.
She is just as large in the masts, hull and spars as she was when I saw her
And just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination.
The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me,
not in her.
And just at the moment when someone at my side says,
"She is gone",
There are others who are watching her coming, and other voices take up a glad shout:
"There she comes"
- and that is dying. An horizon and just the limit of our sight.
Lift us up, Oh Lord, that we may see further.

Rick took me off the streets and gave me a chance to be something special with my talents. He gave me chances no one else has before or since. The years I worked in his office were some of my best of my working life. I got to do things I never thought I could from maintaining an entire network of computers to calling and landing those big leads. I'm not sure I ever got to show him how I fully appreciated what he did for me and my family. I got to see a larger piece of the world and without Rick it would never have happened. Make big things happen in heaven my friend. I for sure will miss you.

My memory of Rick will always be one of kindness towards me as I joined the OneAmerica family and then as we worked together on our company's General Agent's Council. My prayers and thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and those associates in his agency.

Until we meet again my sweet friend. You were always there for me Rick and I will forever be thankful for that. I have so many wonderful memories of you from college, Gloucester to Clearwater. Heck you came to Atlanta to be with me 21 years ago when I was in Delta training. When my dad was sick, you were there. I am so glad we shared an amazing friendship for at least 12 years. I am so happy that we reconnected recently and you got to see pictures of my family. I promise to carry on my wit and hold a special place in my heart for you. Love Kim

Time for me to go now, I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, way up in the sky.
In the morning sunrise when all the world is new,
Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.

Time for me to leave you, I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, high up in the sky.
In the evening sunset, when all the world is through,
Just look for me and love me, and I'll be close to you.

It won't be forever, the day will come and then
My loving arms will hold you, when we meet again.

Time for us to part now, we won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, shining in the sky.
Every waking moment, and all your whole life through
Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.

Just wish me to be near you,
And I'll be there with you.

While we cannot be there we hope you can feel us standing beside you and holding you in our hearts. Take strength from your family and from all those who love you and know that he will still be watching over you as he always has. We will be there in the summer.

I am very sorry for your loss. Thinking of Rick during our high school days brings a smile to my face because of the friendly and fun person Rick was. One did not have to be close friends with Rick back then for him to make me smile and feel better about life. He lit up many rooms and may he rest in peace.

Ed and Joyce, I can't come up with the words to describe the shock of
Rick's passing. I always viewed Rick as indestructable. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.

Praising what is lost makes the remembrance dear.
....William Shakespeare

I only had the privilege of meeting Rick a few times, but have talked with him often and he left a lasting impression. He was always quick with a laugh and a smile and he never forgot me with his E-cards at holiday time. He was a valuable asset to our company and a more valuable friend. He will be dearly missed. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I'm sorry for the loss of such a wonderful friend. Rick and a small group of guys drove up to his Ski house in NH during a snow storm and had a wonderful weekend. Rick was always so generous in personality. I hadn't seen Rick since high school, when I ran into Rick outside a Tampa Bay game when we lived in Tampa. it was if we picked up where we left off from our high school days. That's Rick! Always a kind word and smile to put any one at ease. I'm proud to have know Rick. I'm deeply proud that Rick found it worth his time to be my friend when he first came to Fenwick. In the end I think it's safe to say we brought some joy into each others lives. Some day when I go my some final resting place, I hope Rick's there to vouch for me and show me the ropes. Rest in peace buddy. You will be missed terribly.

It will be the little things
that you will remember,
the quiet moments,
the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem
hard right now,
it will be the memories
of these little things
that help to push
away the pain
and bring the smiles
back again.

May knowing you're
in the hearts and thoughts of others
help you and yours
through this time of sorrow

Love, Stacey Heald

Although I have not spoken with Rick in some time, he left behind some incredible memories from high school and college for myself and the many other people he knew along the way. My thoughts are with John, Derek and the rest of the Kaloust family. Rick will be greatly missed.

To call Rick "one of a kind" would be an injustice and to say that he will be missed is an understatement. The thing that will never be disputed though is that he'll never be forgotten. He was a wonderful guy with a big heart. My heart, love and prayers go out to the entire Kaloust family.

Rest In Peace Ricky!
Love, Bill
